Chapter 10: Grudge Match: Dragons Against Spellcasters
“I’ll start,” Kaiba said as he drew his card. “First I’ll summon X Head Cannon in attack mode, and then I’ll play two cards face-down and end my turn.” A machine with two cannon barrels coming out of its back, and two holographic face-down cards appeared behind him.
“I’ll play Heavy Storm,” Yugi said, “This will destroy all magic and trap cards on the field!” A great whirlwind whipped up and was about to destroy Kaiba’s cards when he pressed the activation buttons on his duel disc.
“I activate my trap card, Bell of Destruction! I choose one monster on the field. It is destroyed and both of us lose life points equal to that monster’s attack points!” A grey ring lined with grenades appeared around X Head Cannon’s neck and explosion. Suddenly a rotating white ring with green fan blades appeared and blew the smoke and fire of the explosion away. “I also activate my other face-down card, Ring of Defense, which shields me from the power of my Ring of Destruction!”
Yugi carried on with his turn, “I play Polymerization, to fuse the Buster Blader and Dark Magician in my hand to summon my Dark Paladin! Now Dark Paladin, attack!” Appearing on the field was what looked like the Dark Magician, only darker and wielding a staff with a blade attached to it. “Now Dark Paladin, attack him directly!” The magician/swordsman raised his staff/sword, which radiated with a purple aura. He then swung it down a stream of energy shot out, lowering Kaiba’s life points.
Yugi: 6200 Kaiba: 5100
Kaiba grinned as he drew his card. “First I’ll activate the special ability of the Thunder Dragon in my hand to discard it and bring up to two more Thunder Dragons in my hand, I’ll choose one. Then I’ll use that effect twice more, to discard this one, then bring this one to my hand, then discard this one, even though I have no more Thunder Dragons in my deck. Next I’ll play one monster in defense mode, and play Dragon Search, which lets me discard one monster from my hand to search for a dragon in my deck of the same number of level stars.” Kaiba discarded his Paladin of White Dragon and took another dragon from his deck, added it to his hand, and shuffled his deck.
“What is Kaiba thinking,” Yugi thought to himself, “Has he finally lost it?” As he drew, he then said out loud “I’ll now attack with my Paladin! Go attack!” The Dark Paladin then sped at Kaiba’s face-down creature and then slashed at it. A man in armor, shield, and sword exploded. “You’ve attacked my Familiar Knight, now we each choose one Level 4 monster in our hand and summon it to the field. I’ll summon my Rare Metal Dragon in attack mode!” A black dragon on all hours with spiky plates and 2400 attack points appeared on the field. “I have no Level 4 monsters in my hand, so I’ll summon Kuriboh in defense mode, and play one card face-down and end my turn. A little, furry brown monster that can be best described as a pom-pom with eyes and two green claws appeared on the field.
“I’ll play Card of Sanctity!” Kaiba declared. They all drew till they had six cards in their hand. “Next I’ll play one card face-down, and then play one of my newest and most powerful cards! The card known as Brotherhood of White Dragon! With this card is on the field, I may take as many cards as I can or desire with the name Blue Eyes White Dragon, Blue Eyes Toon Dragon, or Blue Eyes Shining Dragon from my deck to my hand for a mere 200 Life Points a card. I’ll take two of my Blue Eyes White Dragon and my Blue Eyes Shining Dragon.”
Yugi: 6200 Kaiba: 4500
“Now,” Kaiba continued, “I’ll play Polymerization to fuse the three Blue Eyes White Dragons in my hand to summon to the field to summon my Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon!” The three Blue Eyes appeared on the field and came together to bring forth a three headed Blue Eyes White Dragon with 4500 attack points. “Now I’ll sacrifice my Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon to summon to the field the mighty Blue Eyes Shining Dragon! I’ll then place one more card face-down, switch my Rare Metal Dragon into defense mode, and end my turn. Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon changed into a one headed mechanized Blue Eyes White Dragon. Then another holographic card appeared face-down and Rare Metal Dragon curled up into a ball.
“Kaiba,” Yugi said, “Your dragon may be powerful, but my magician is even more so. Do not forget that yours may gain 300 attack points for every dragon in the Graveyard, giving it 5400 attack points, but my paladin gains 500 attack points for every Dragon in the Graveyard AND the field, so mine Paladin has 7900 Attack Points! Now go Dark Paladin, attack his Shining Dragon!” The Paladin of White Dragon flew at Blue Eyes Shining Dragon, raising his sword/staff, whose blade was radiating with purple energy. The Blue Eyes Shining Dragon powered up a beam of white energy in its mouth. Then the Paladin slashed his sword, throwing the energy on the blade at the dragon. The Dragon fired its beam. The attacks collided. The Paladin’s attack was expected to rip right through Kaiba’s Dragon’s attack, but Kaiba had other plans.
“I activate my trap card: Skill Drain! This Continuous Trap Card requires me to pay up 1000 Life Points, but in exchange, every face-up monster on the field with an effect has its effect negated. This means that our monsters go back to their original attack points, so my Dragon destroys your Paladin!” Shining Dragon’s beam enveloped Yugi’s Paladin’s attack, and continued on and enveloped Yugi’s monster. “I’ll summon one monster in defense mode and end my turn,” Yugi said, with an edge of worry in his voice.
“I’ll activate my face-down card, Mystical Space Typhoon,” Kaiba said pressing the activation button on his duel disc, “I will now use its power to destroy your face-down card!” A whirling wind, not nearly as large as the Heavy Storm, blew out of the holographic card, which enveloped Yugi’s face-down Magic Cylinder, destroying it. “Next I’ll play Emergency Provisions, which allows me to destroy one of my magic or trap cards and in exchange gain 1000 Life Points. I will destroy my Skill Drain. Then I’ll switch my Rare Metal Dragon back into attack mode and summon to the field Vorse Raider n attack mode!”
Skill Drain distentegrated into sparkling light, which went into Kaiba’s Life Point Counter. Then the Rare Metal Dragon uncurled from its balled-up position, then an ugly man-like beast with jeans, a black and blue vest with yellow studs on it, horns, big fangs, a large axe/sword-like thing, and 1900 attack points appeared on the field. “Now Rare Metal Dragon, destroy his Kuriboh, and Vorse Raider, attack his face-down monster!” Kaiba commanded. First Rare Metal Dragon spat a glob of liquid metal onto Kuriboh, killing it. Then Vorse Raider came in hacked Yugi’s face-down monster, Sangan, to bits. Yugi then took a monster with 1500 attack points or less from his deck and placed it in his hand.
Yugi: 6100 Kaiba: 4500
“Now Yugi, I will hit with my dragon’s full strength! Blue Eyes Shining Dragon, attack with Shining Neutron Blast!” The mighty dragon opened up its mouth and fired another energy stream at Yugi, lowering his life points drastically. “I end my turn Yugi,” Kaiba mocked, “But don’t think that you’re going to be able to find a way to win next turn, because I highly doubt it!”
Yugi: 700 Kaiba: 4500
Yugi drew his card and grinned, “Sorry Kaiba, but you lose! I play Raigeki, which will destroy all of your monsters on the field! Then I’ll play Monster Reborn and resurrect my Paladin of White Dragon and attack you directly!” A lightning bolt struck, blowing up all of Kaiba’s monsters. Then Dark Paladin reappeared. He then charged at Kaiba and slashed at him, wiping out the last of his life points. Yugi looked at Kaiba, and with a strong face said, “You lose, Kaiba!”
Yugi: 700 Kaiba: 0000
“Well folks, we have our winner! YUGI MOUTO!” The announcer cried. Streamers and confetti was released from the ceiling as the crowd roared. Kaiba slumped away and left the building Mokuba close behind. A little later, Yugi had just left the bathroom and was heading outside to meet back up with the others when, just as he was rounding a corner, a plastic baseball bat came out of nowhere and smacked him in the head. He knew no more.
When Yugi awoke, he was on the roof. He saw across from him was Setna. “Yugi,” she said, “I lost, so I missed my chance at beating you, and thus getting your Millennium Puzzle. So we’ll duel right here, right now.” “Who are you?” Yugi demanded. “Me? I am the Spirit of the Millennium Ring, the Thief Bakura, who, out of desperation, possessed this mortal woman. You will duel me now, if I win I will seal your soul into this stone forever,” The evil Bakura said, holding up a rock, “And I’ll take the Millennium Puzzle as well. But if you win, I will return your friend Tea, who I kidnapped. Are you ready?” The Millennium Puzzle flashed as the ancient Pharaoh took control, “Fine, I accept. Let us begin!”
