Alright, this is episode seventeen. Now, at first, I was a little reluctant about putting this one up, and you’ll see why shortly, but by the time I realized this, it was too late for me to make the dramatic changes necessary. This is also the second longest duel of the story (next to the final duel) since it takes up three episodes. But it’s worth it. Enjoy!

Warning!: This episode contains descriptions of graphic violence. Reader discretion is highly advised.

Episode 17: Against All Odds - Duel of Agony

Joey glared daggers at the girl standing opposite him. Then he looked around at the Shadows surrounding him and the others. It wasn’t the usual heavy darkness, but a more transparent fog, that cast the world in an eerie purple color.

“What’s going on here? I thought we were going to the Shadow Realm,” Joey exclaimed.

“We are in the Shadow Realm, you fool. This is a different manifestation of the shadows, one that is much less severe on the duelists. There will be no Game Penalty, at least not for you. I hope you didn’t think that you would get out of this with a quick trip to the Shadow Realm, because after this duel, you’ll wish you were in hell. And I’ll grant you that wish.”

“Wait. You said that there wasn’t a game penalty for me. What did that mean?” Joey asked.

Jentiri simply smirked and pointed behind her. A pit of black fire opened up in the earth. It burned so intensely that Joey and the others felt the heat in the entire area. Atem took off his jacket and Jason slipped his shirt over his head. Joey looked at the pit.

“Who is that for, because I know it’s for someone,” Joey asked.

Jentiri pointed up at the sky. Joey looked up and his heart nearly stopped at the sight. His sister, Serenity, hung from a dark cross, bound by energy ropes. Tattered, beaten rags that barely hung from her body replaced her clothes. She slowly opened her eyes and looked down at the field.

“Serenity!” Joey screamed out.

He reached up to her, but his ribs prevented him from doing so, and he quickly retracted his arm, grabbing at his injured chest. His sister’s eyes went wide, and she screamed out in terror. Jentiri laughed, and spoke.

“I’ve been reading up a little on your mortal torture techniques, and quite frankly, they interest me. I happened upon something very intriguing and decided to use it in this duel. When you lose, your sister will suffer greatly.”

“Joey, help me!” the girl cried out.

The blonde duelist tried to help her, but Jentiri forced him back with her power, causing more pain to his ribs.

“Duel now, or she dies in the most painful, horrifying way you can imagine, not that it won’t happen anyway!” she hissed.

Joey cursed at the spirit as he recovered and drew his five cards. Jentiri drew hers and the duel started.

(Joey: 8000) (Jentiri: 8000)

“I’ll take the first move, got that!” Joey snapped. Jentiri nodded and Joey snapped the sixth card from his deck aggressively. “I’ll place two cards face down and summon Swordsman of Landstar in attack mode (500/1200)!”

Two floating card holograms appeared in front of Joey, and a small human-like creature with a short sword in one hand appeared in a flash of sparks.

“Make your move, and make it fast.”

Jentiri casually slipped the top card off of her deck and added it to her hand without looking at it. She picked up a card and placed it on the Duel Disk without any effort, or interest in what she was doing.

“I’ll play Agido (1500/1300) in attack mode,” the spirit said as the round red fairy appeared. It snapped its metal claws at Joey’s monster, which backed up slightly. Atem and Jason looked on with concern as Jentiri announced her next move with a tone of boredom. “Agido, attack the Swordsman.” The fairy charged forward.

“No you don’t! Activate Graceful Dice!” Joey snapped aggressively as his first face down card flipped. “This card will increase my monster’s attack power by 200 times the number rolled!”

A small yellow creature popped out of the card hologram and dropped a large, blue die onto the field. It tumbled for a few seconds before landing on a three. Jentiri smirked at the result, but Joey wasn’t done yet.

“Fine, let’s see how you like Skull Dice!” His other trap card flipped up, and out of it appeared a small pale skinned demon, holding a large red die. “This card will decrease your monster’s attack by 100 times the number rolled.”

The demon dropped the die and it tumbled before landing on a five. Joey clenched his fists and yelled out at Jentiri.

“Now, your monster (1000/1300) is too weak to destroy mine, so counter, Swordsman of Landstar (1100/1200)!”

The tiny monster sidestepped the attack from Agido and slashed the fairy, splitting it in two.

(Joey: 8000) (Jentiri: 7900)

Atem and Jason continued to look on with great concern. Jason turned to the pharaoh.

“Is it just me, or is something wrong with this situation?” he asked.

“She’s too calm about being so careless. She purposely ran into Joey’s trap without even looking at her other options. Something is wrong here,” Atem replied.

Jentiri casually looked up at Serenity, who dangled helplessly from the cross and ended her turn. Joey snapped the top card off of his deck and played it almost immediately.

“I’ll place another card face down and play Alligator Sword (1500/1200) in attack mode!” Joey said as he slammed the card down on his Duel Disk.

The large, reptilian monster shimmered into view, and swung its broad sword over its shoulder. Joey thrust his hand out and gave the command.

“Swordsman of Landstar, attack her life points directly!”

The tiny swordsman charged forward and delivered a quick slash to Jentiri, who smirked at the last second before being struck.

(Joey: 8000) (Jentiri: 7400)

Before Joey could give his next order a sound rang out through the shadows. A sound that was so horrific and bloodcurdling, that it would’ve broken Joey’s soul to witness the image that went with the sound. It was the sound of a heavy whip being cracked across flesh. It was a whip that was cracked across Serenity’s flesh. The girl screamed out in agony as Joey looked up at her. A long red line of blood trailed its way down her chest, through her ripped clothing.

“Serenity! What have you done to her?!” Joey exclaimed, turning his rage on Jentiri, who was nearly doubled over with laughter over Serenity’s cries. Her laughter stopped abruptly and she looked up at Joey with the same rage as she had before.

“It’s not what I’ve done to her. It’s what you’ve done to her. You see, that is another stipulation that I forgot to mention. When you strike my life points, Serenity feels the pain. And that pain increases with the strength of your monsters. Look at her, Joey. She’s bleeding and suffering from a monster with only 500 points of attack. Imagine what that big, strong Alligator Sword will do to her soft, sensitive flesh,” Jentiri said as she licked her lips in delight of Serenity’s pain.

Joey looked up at Serenity, whose breath came out in ragged puffs. She opened her eyes and looked down at Joey. Tears immediately streamed down her face as Joey looked into her suffering face. Serenity’s eyes shimmered with tears as she looked at him with a look that was almost pleading with him not to continue the torment. Joey’s own eyes began to tear up.

“I…I…I can’t torture my sister any further! End turn!”

Atem and Jason clenched their teeth and fists in rage. The pharaoh was the first to speak up. “How dare you! Release Serenity right now!” he screamed.

“Forget that! I’ll get her down myself!” Jason exclaimed as the Ring glowed brightly.

Jentiri waved her hand, and the Ring immediately stopped glowing and Jason felt the power leave his body. His eyes went wide with shock.

“Don’t be a fool. My power is far beyond that of your pathetic Millennium Items. Now, for my turn.” Jentiri drew from her deck with a renewed confidence in her dueling. She looked over the cards in her hand for the first time. “Okay. I’ll set a card face down and summon Zolga (1700/1200) in attack mode!” A large cloaked fairy appeared with an ethereal cry in front of the brown backed hologram representing her face down card. “Zolga, attack the Swordsman of Landstar!” Jentiri commanded.

The monster fired sharp blasts of wind from its cloak, which shattered Joey’s monster and dropped his life points in the process.

(Joey: 6800) (Jentiri: 7400)

“My turn is over. Show me what you’ve got. Unless, you’re afraid to harm dear Serenity up there.”

Joey drew, and looked at his hand. He had a way to get around Jentiri’s monster, but he didn’t want to hurt Serenity any further. He decided to only go through with half of his plan.

“I’ll summon Baby Dragon (1200/700) in attack mode. Then I’ll activate Polymerization, to fuse my dragon and Alligator Sword into one.”

The small orange dragon appeared on the field with a low growl, then, was absorbed into a swirling vortex, along with Alligator Sword. When the vortex cleared, the Alligator Sword emerged, riding on Baby Dragon’s back.

“With this I summon Alligator Sword Dragon (1700/1500). I’ll end my turn.”

“You’re skills are even more pathetic than I thought. I’ll summon Shining Angel (1400/1000) in attack mode.” A blonde angel in a shining white robe appeared in a flash of light. “Now, Zolga, attack the Alligator Sword Dragon!”

The two monsters collided with each other head on, causing them both to shatter. Atem’s concern grew to its apex.

“Joey, what’s going on out there? Why are you making such rookie mistakes?” Jason asked, trying to whip Joey back into the duel.

Atem placed his hand on Jason’s shoulder. “Jason, his sister could die if he wins this duel. Her safety comes before everything else,” Atem said.

“So he is too concerned about his sister to duel properly? That’s beyond dishonorable.”

“That was the plan all along. Joey can’t win this duel easily, or even without hurting Serenity.”

Jentiri laughed at Joey, as he sat wide open for a direct assault. She gave the order to strike and her Fairy charged up a ball of energy and threw it at Joey, striking him in the chest.

(Joey: 5400) (Jentiri: 7400)

As the blast hit Joey, the pain returned. He was so angry at the beginning of the duel that he forgot about his injured ribs, but the shot from Jentiri’s monster felt so real in the Shadow Realm, that it caused him great agony. He dropped to one knee and grabbed his chest in pain, spitting out a few drops of blood in the process. However, the sound of Jason’s exclamation snapped him out of his pain for a second.

“Oh my God!”

Joey looked up and something rose from the black flame. Something long and sharp rose up towards his sister from the blazing hot fire. Jason immediately recognized what was going to happen, and yelled out.

“Joey, no! Don’t look at it!”

But the blonde duelist couldn’t help but see what was about to happen to his sister. The glowing spike rose up to be level with Serenity, then, drove itself, with great force, into her left wrist, through the flesh, through the bone, straight through the cross. Blood leaked out like a river, as Serenity screamed at the top of her lungs. The sizzling spike set itself deeper into her wrist, and she screamed louder, causing Atem and Jason to have to cover their ears. Joey screamed out with her.

“SERENITY! NO!”

Jentiri exploded with laughter over Serenity’s short, yet agonizing screams. She looked up at the suffering girl and fell to the ground clutching her sides. Joey looked down at her with a renewed rage.

“You twisted little freak! Why are you doing this?! What’s going on?!”

Jentiri stared Joey in the face, through her own tears of laughter. She fought to keep the laughs down as she spoke, but a few slipped out in between words.

“I…also forgot to…mention that whenever…whenever I do damage to your life points…Serenity…Serenity suffers like the little slave that she is.”

Jentiri laughed again as Joey’s rage boiled to new levels. But, then, he looked up at his sister. He saw the tears of unimaginable pain flow freely down her face, as the hot spike cauterized the wound it made, closing the flesh in around it. His rage turned to sorrow, as he realized that no matter who won, his sister suffered. Jentiri stopped laughing and wiped away her tears.

“Okay, that was entertaining. But now back to business. I’ll end my turn.”

Joey uneasily drew from his deck, feeling a slight stinging in his ribs from earlier. He had to summon a monster to protect himself, and Serenity. He looked at his hand and saw two playable monsters that could help him.

“I’ll play Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800/1600) in attack mode,” he said as he placed the card on the Duel Disk.

A tall knight in black, metallic armor appeared in a flash of sparks. The long blade attached to its arm gleamed in the glow of the flame. Joey gave his command with less enthusiasm than before.

“Gearfried, attack the Shining Angel.”

Joey’s knight charged forward and slashed through the fairy monster, slicing it in half completely before it shattered. Jentiri laughed again.

(Joey: 5400) (Jentiri: 7000)

“You’ve activated its effect, which allows me to summon a light monster with an attack power of 1500 of less from my deck to the field.”

A large hole opened in the air in front of Jentiri, and the opening blossomed like a flower, until it was big enough for her next monster to squeeze through.

“I’ll summon White Magician Pikeru (1200/0) in attack mode!” A small cherub-like monster stepped through the hole in the dimension and stood on the field in front of Jentiri. “And before you end your turn, I’ll activate Solemn Wishes. My trap card gives me 500 life points for each time I draw a card.”

Joey gulped at the sound of what she had in store for him, and he simply ended his turn. Jentiri drew, and her trap card boosted her life points.

(Joey: 5400) (Jentiri: 7500)

“Next, my White Magician’s effect comes through, giving me 400 life points for every monster I have on the field. Since he’s my only one, I gain 400.”

(Joey: 5400) (Jentiri: 7900)

“Now I’ll summon Hysteric Fairy (1800/800) in attack mode!”

A tall winged angel with long raven hair appeared on the field. She clutched a book in one hand and adjusted the glasses that she wore with the other.

“Next, I’ll activate Shooting Star Bow - Ceal, and equip it to my Hysteric Fairy. It decreases her attack points by 1000, but it allows her to attack your life points directly. So, without further ado, Hysteric Fairy (800/800) attack him directly!”

Joey’s ears burned from these words, because he knew what they meant. Serenity would suffer again. She cried out from the cross as the Fairy charged past Gearfried and struck Joey with a glowing ball of light fired from her new weapon.

(Joey: 4600) (Jentiri: 7900)

Joey’s ribs felt like they were on fire as he dropped to the ground and grabbed at them. His own pain was nothing, however, compared to the screams of Serenity, who squirmed in agony upon the cross.

“No! Not again! Please! Joey, help me!”

Her eyes welled up with tears as another spike rose from the fire. Joey looked on helplessly from the ground as the searing hot spike stopped, then, shot forward like a bullet, this time ramming itself through Serenity’s bare ankles. She let out another ear piercing shriek as the fresh blood ran down her feet from the new wound. The girl began to feel dizzy from the pain and closed her eyes and letting her head hang, eliciting another anguished scream from Joey.

“No, Serenity! Open your eyes, please! Tell me you’re alive!”

Jentiri’s laughter rang out again. She held her arms out in a mocking fashion and spoke in a very scornful and acerbic voice. “Yes, that’s right! Let me crucify your sister so that you may feel the same pain that I felt 5000 years ago thanks to your kind. You humans are all such ignorant fools, willing to hurt those you love just to get your way. Once the Shadow Gate has opened, all of you will perish and suffer. So come, join your sister in sweet, beautiful agony as I take all of you to the depths of hell to cleanse our new world!”

I know, I know. I’m sick and wrong for that. But I don’t know what came over me when I wrote this. And there are two more episodes of that to go. Well, anyway, I’ll have them up soon.

This chapter is sick, wrong, immoral and disgusting and any normal person would insist that this be dubbed back to the last century, but at last check, I'm not a normal person. :D Anyway, this is great. Please post the next chapter before I do something crazy...hehehehe... ;)
