Alright, so this is my first ever tournament report to accompany my first ever regional event. There were 140 people who registered so 16 invites were going to be awarded. I was super excited because I knew that if I got my invitation, I’d be going to nationals. Anyways, to start off the day I had to wake up at 6:00 AM in order to get breakfast, stop at the bank for money, and then drive from Denver to Colorado Springs. Well, I get there and I talk to some people that I know from when I go to Dalez sometimes. Then, being prepared, I have my decklist and registration forms filled out so I get my five packs. I pulled amazingly. Of my five packs, I manage to nab a FLELF! Score! I start to talk to people again and a guy from Dalez named James wants to play.
So we play 2 matches and I go 2-1 and 2-0 vs malefic Skill Drain. I’m feeling super confident at this point so I decide to do some trades to keep my confidence up. I end up trading 3 westlos, 2 laggia ultras, and a dolkka for a Spanish 1/e lob Dark Hole, an ultra Book of Moon, an ulti 1/e Effect Veiler, a super Ryko, and a few other cards to trade away. Then, the player meeting starts and we get our pairings. I start at table 10. And now here are the rounds.
Round 1 vs Otis Inzektors (Yay, my easiest mirror.)
Game 1: He opens with an arma knight to drop hornet and 2 backrow and passes. I open with a dfly, a hornet, a centipede, Heavy Storm, Mystical Space Typhoon, and draw a giga-mantis. I heavy, summon dfly, he has no Effect Veiler so I proceed to OTK.
Game 2: My sided in crevice into the different dimensions and raigeki breaks put in so much work.

Round 2 vs Luke Mattingly DinoRabbit (might have this switched with round 4, not sure. One was DinoRabbit and one was Inzektors) (I learned afterwards that he was one of the better players in CO)
Game 1: He opens rabbit and I have no veiler. I use double mst to pop his backrow and he doesn’t negate with laggia. I then summon dfly, he negates, I reborn it and pop with hornet and hold my advantage for the win.
Game 2: He doesn’t open rabbit and I don’t open up much better than a hornet and mantis and double mst. I just go for it and drop the 2400 beater and it gets eliminated with a laggia suicide and I can’t draw anything else.
Game 3: I don’t see my side at all and some people are starting to gather so I’m a bit nervous. I manage to pull off the otk after a bit of back and forth. We shake each other’s hands and wish each other good luck and I was really happy that I had not run into any jerks yet.

In between rounds, I play a casual match vs a DinoZektor deck in which he reborns my hornet and uses it to xyz. We have same sleeves so I forget to grab my hornet back and go into round 3 unknowingly playing a 40-card deck with 2 hornets.
Round 3 vs Scotty DarkWorlds
Game 1: He just opens like a boss and gets me with graphas and silvvas in a few turns.
Game 2: My side puts in work, (talking to you Prohibition).Game 3: I start to pull off an early advantage because he tries to use Dragged Down and I have no cards in hand so it flips down again as an illegal play. Knowing he has it, I make sure not to keep any cards in hand and I topdeck a Prohibition and say “Gates of Dark World”. He calls a judge and thinks he has me because the card is “The Gates of Dark World” but the judge tells him that it doesn’t matter since we all knew what I meant. I slowly win.

Lunchtime: I go to count my deck and freak out and get ready to go buy another hornet when I remember the DinoZektor guy. I ask him if I can see his deck and he has 41 with 4 hornets in it. Luckily, he says it’s alright and lets my get my hornet back. I make another trade and manage to grab a super Snowman Eater to upgrade my side.
Round 4 vs Can't remember name Inzektors (yes, another mirror, I love it)
Game 1: I just open like god and win really fast.
Game 2: I side in prohibitions and breaks and crevices and they put in work but he pulls it off.
Game 3: I open double mst and 2 prohibitions and dfly and hornet. Mst 2 backrow, summon dfly, effect to equip hornet. Use prohibitions for hornet, and another for mst. And win quickly after.
4-0 and I’m feeling amazing.
Round 5 vs Shawn Shakir(spelled right?) DinoRabbit (The best player I know. Top 64ed long beach so wasn’t too disappointing a loss. I have mad respect for him.)
Game 1: We both open strong and I manage to get his hand and field down but he wins with a BLS and Guaiba over my centipede.
Game 2: He opens amazingly again but I manage to recover with dfly, hornet, and zektkaliber. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that if dfly is destroyed while equipped with zektkaliber I can add the same dfly back and was told afterwards. It cost me the game since he manages to draw a monster before me.

Round 6 vs Can't remember name Fusion Gate Heroes
Not much to say for this match. I hate so ******* much that I lost to this. Shining and Absolute Zero cost me my invite.

Round 7 vs Can't remember name Destiny Heroes, I think
Game 1: I won, not much to it. Although he does scare me with a one turn D-Hero Plasma Play.
Game 2: See game one except for Plasma play.

Round 8 vs Cody Muniz Bubblebeat (Ironically, I lose on the bubble to Bubblebeat.)
Game 1: He got me quickly.
Game 2: Prohibition Neos Alius gets me the win.
Game 3: Couldn’t draw anything to help and he gets me with a Gemini Spark and Hero Blast play for game.
5-3 This guy was so cool. One of the coolest guys I’d talked to all day. He could tell how dejected I was and I think he felt bad but I wish he didn’t. He finished top 8 and got himself a mat. I got in a few more trades and bought a CP Prohibition for shiny.
Unfortunately, I finished 22nd out of 140, not too bad for my first ever regional. But, hey, there’s a regional in Kansas 5/19 that I’ll try to make it to.
