Ru/Sa Mono Type Team Challenge!

This game was originally created by PorygonX from Serebii.net for R/B/Y. Dias then remade it for Ru/Sa. I think it is a very fun and interesting game so I decided to bring it over to Pojo for you guys can experience it. So here it is, and have fun!


You play through either Ruby or Sapphire using Pokemon of only one type (including Duel types who must share the chosen type)

If your chosen starter is not of the type you picked, you are forbidden to use it. No matter how stuck you get you must not use any other types.

You are allowed to use only ONE set of TMs. No trading to get TM's either through other Ru/Sa games or for those of you who have FR/LG.

As with TMs, you cannot trade between games for pokemon. This means obtaining level 5 pokemon via eggs from other games.. Trading for evolution is allowed (Machamp, Alakazam, Golem, Clamperl, etc etc etc). You may trade between other Ru/Sa games only. I must state for a final time NO TRADING TO OBTAIN NEW POKEMON ONLY FOR EVOLUTION. Ahem..

I understand that certain types have pokemon that cannot learn required HMs like Dive, Waterfall, ect. so I am allowing one HM slave, so long as you do not use it in battle.


After you pass certain events or feel the need to update, you reply to the topic with details on how your progress is going, the status of your team, how hard it is, etc.

If a Pokemon evolves into a Pokemon of your type, you may use it (i.e choosing fighting and using Torchic.) if you use a pokemon who is your type and then evolves out of that type (i.e if you pick water and use Surskit, he evolves into Masquerain which is not water) you can use that Pokemon only if you keep it un-evolved.

The challenge is considered complete upon the reaching, or defeat of Rayquaza.

Now, these are the types you can choose from:

Water
Bug
Flying
Normal
Grass
Fighting
Ground
Dark
Psychic

Why not Dark or Poison. There are enough Dark to make a Team, and you can start with Poochenya, and then Sableye, and Crawdaunt for Surfing and all other things needed., Cacutune for Cutting, the only problem is there is no Flying. so you would be using your Bike alot. and Walking.

I'd probably use a Water type, they are the strongest and learn some of the best TM's and attack strategies for this.

Hmm.. Well like I said, I didnt make the game. If you guys really want, I'll add Dark. And another thing I prolly should have added is that you are allowed to have one HM slave, just as long as you do not use it in battle. Like a Pelipper for Surfing and fly and a Tentacool for Dive, Waterfall, ect.

EDIT: I just edited the rules to allow Dark Type (;)) and one HM slave.

also, electricity is good. And Psychic. Add Psychic, cuz you can start with ralts, then catch Abra, move on to Lunatone/Solrock, Chimeco, and so forth. Also, if Psychic is allowed, will the Jirachi from the disk be allowed?
Also, i think you should add that until you catch your first Poke of the selected type, only the starter pokemon may battle, and only against wild pokes to catch em.

EEK! You guys are pretty suggestive I see.. so I'll tell you what.. I will add Psychic if I get a couple more requests. However, I will not add Electric.

And I was assuming that the Starter thing you mentioned was pretty obvious. And you may use your starter pokemon in gym battles but only if your Starter pokemon is of your selected type.

Oh drat, I have already done the game with psychic on my ruby version before, I caught ralts, then solrock, but not lunatone (didn't have saphire or gameshark at the time) and abra, then I caught latios, and then went to southern island and caught latias (at THAT time I had gameshark) and rayquazza went down easily, that is, after anihalating all my team except for latios, when I finally KO'd him

Update on Psychic team:
I caght a female Ralts, trained it to level 16, and beat Roxanne.
I caught an Abra in Dewford Island's caves, level 9, currently training.

The only hard thing is that both early psychics have not attack moves, so they have to be put in battle, then replaced.

Psychic is pretty tough too, especially at the begining, and the third gym cuz two or the leader's pokes are steels.
If ur doing dark, i suggest catching Sableye at Granite Cave. If you have Ruby, go with Seedot/Nuzleaf/Shiftry as well. Later, look for a Corphish to evolve to Crawdaunt, Absol, and if you want, Caravanha/Sharpedo.

ok, so i beat norman, and my current team is Grumpig, Gardevoir, Kadabra, Lunatone, and an HM Slave, corphish (I got the good Rod). I need another Psychic type to fill in the sixth slot

Hm, you have grumpig, gadevior, kadabra, and lunatone? next, hmm, Well, Claydol is a ground/psychic if I remember correctly, and I think there are a few others, but I can't think of any for saphire at the moment, sorry.

Nah, i restarted and haven't beat the Elite four yet. However, I did go to the Safari Zone and caught a Xatu, the evolved one. Now its a member of my team.

Wow BusterBladeLord you are progressing very well! Im glad to see all you guys are having fun with this. I would like to join the game myself, but right now Im working on teams for a tourny thats coming up soon so I'll have to pass :(

Ya know, I just might try bug types, see if they really get the short end of the stick when it comes to strength.

Armaldo I guess I could use, but he makes NO use of his bug type, but you're deafanatley right about flygon.

Well, theres Ninjask and Sedinja, otherwise, you got all available bugs in R/S. But whatever you do select, make sure you use Heracross.

I like silverwind alot its a good attack. I dont like beatifly though i think all the bug-butterfly thing evolutions stink.

I think I might try dark, Using multiple saves, (man, I love my saphire rom) so that means I can get sableye, but not shiftry. but tell me if I miss some pokemon

Update on BUG: I've got both wurmple evolutions, and a volbeat, and I am looking for illumise (althouh I don't know why, check the atacks it learns, not worth bothering with) and I have defeated the electric gym leader (I forget his name)

I beat the Mossdeep Gym, on my way to Sootopolis. oh, btw, my team is now Grumpig, Meditite, Kadabra (i have only the rom, so i can't trade and evolve :( , Gardevoir, Lunatone, and Staryu, which i will evolve one i get waterstone (where do you find it?) till then, it is my HM slave.

Just making sure you guys know, if some one else already chose a type, you can still use that type.

Manetric, may i suggest one more thing? How about allowing us people who can't trade to shark in one poke that evolves by trading, so long as it is normal, without absurd stats, and can be found in the version we have if playing the normal game?

Well first off, I strongly discourage sharking, or any other form of cheating. I really dont see why you couldnt keep the pokemon unevolved, other than for the pokedex.. but, since I like you, I'll think about it..

Ya I missed it to.. mainly because I wasnt really into pokemon at the time. I just got my R/S like a month ago. But my friend said that he think he got one in a magazine not that long ago and he'll try to find it for me..

Anyways.. I thought about the sharking and I'll allow it. But only for pokemon that trade evolve, and only if you really cannot trade like BBL! They must be the same level and have the same moveset as your current pre-evolved form of the pokemon and they must have normal stats! Make em shiney if ya wish, that really makes no difference..
