North Texas, unfortunately, no.
However, East Texas is indeed getting into the game (I am doing my best to boost interest).
It's a place called The Castle if you ever want to check it out, depending on how far away you are. It's in Tyler, TX.

StrikeZone in Houston, TX has weekly Vanguard tournaments every Saturday at 6pm. But that's definitely not North Texas :(.

Yeah, I dunno about north Texas, but Heroes and Fantasies in San Antonio has started vanguard tournaments every Saturday. It's spreading pretty fast here.

There is supposed to be a free tournament this Saturday at The Castle in Tyler TX. Don't know how many people will show because I'm pretty sure its there first tournament.

It's not a "tournament" so much as it is a learning day to get the local scene into the game. So far there's about a 1 to 1.5 dozen people saying they'll show up, which is pretty neat.
I'm one of the guys who is going to promote the game locally as much as possible and help teach. Probably going to give out commons to help build decks.

How is the scene at Heroes and fantasies? I've been thinking about playing but nobody at my normal shop even cares about this game.

Madness Comics and Games in Denton is looking into Vanguard. I know this sunday they are having a tournament where everyone just plays with a starter deck to try and get some people interested.

Did any of these North Texan stores (Denton, etc) keep the game as a weekly event?

I went to Heroes and Fantasies a few times a few months ago but nobody wanted to play Vanguard. The Yu-Gi-Oh! scene there is a lot bigger. Ooples Apparel, only a couple of miles north, has a larger Vanguard community (and has Sal Pulido, who got second place at Dallas). Aside from that, a good section of the people who play Vanguard in San Antonio go to both stores.
EDIT - A few months ago, when I was still living in San Antonio, Ooples had a weekly Vanguard tournament on Sunday. It was free to enter, swiss format with a top 4/8 depending on turnout, and the prizes were 3 packs for the winner, 2 for 2nd place, 1 for third place. They are probably still having it.

Gunslinger Games in Dallas has tournaments every Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, with team tournaments on the last Thursday of every month. We have a pretty decent turnout of 12-16 players per event, with the number being slightly higher in the summer when everyone's free.
