Tails had his face in his hands, crying incredibly hard. Knuckles was trying to comfort him, but his efforts failed. Shadow was getting a pod from the Tornado to put Sonic in as a casket.
“W-Why d-did he h-have to d-d-d-die!!!” Tails cried.
“Tails…it would’ve happened sooner or later.” Knuckles said.
“B-But he p-promised u-us he w-wouldn’t d-die!” Tails said, breaking into harder sobs.
“Tails calm down. Eggman was behind this, and we’ll get him back, no matter how tough this Metal Shadow thing is.”
Tails started to calm down. His sobs were growing silent until he actually fell asleep. Knuckles placed him on the ground and let him sleep. He went over to where Shadow was and helped pull out a pod for Sonic.
“Man Tails was really upset today.”
“Well if you lost your best friend, what would you do?”
“You made a good point there.”
Knuckles set the pod on the ground and opened the hatch. Shadow went over to Sonic’s body and lifted it up and placed it into the pod. Knuckles started to dig a hole to put the pod in.
“What’s going on?”
Knuckles got out of the hole to see Tails awake, rubbing his eyes.
“Tails go back to sleep.”
“No, I want to help.”
Tails walked over to a stone, took a smaller stone, and began to carve a tombstone for his best friend which read:
“Here Lies Sonic the Hedgehog
Fastest Being Alive
R.I.P.”
Shadow, Knuckles, and Tails continued onward, trying to reach Eggman’s base as fast as they could.

Hours until Metal Shadow Strikes: 3 hours
Eggman was prancing around like an idiot, celebrating his victory over Sonic, a being he had never been able to kill. Metal Shadow was in a corner, watching him.
“What an imbecile. He couldn’t even kill an inferior being to himself.” he thought.
Metal Shadow stood up, and walked over to Eggman. Eggman stopped his prancing, and Metal Shadow slapped Eggman across the face. Eggman fell to the ground, clutching his face. A cut on his face started to bleed, and Eggman looked at Metal Shadow horrifyingly.
“What was that for you imbecile?”
“I have my reasons doctor.”
“I am bleeding you fool!”
“You say another word and you will feel this again.”
Metal Shadow held up his cold, robotic hand, about to strike. Eggman cowered in fear, and Metal Shadow lowered his hand.
“Do I make myself clear?”
“Y-Yes Metal Shadow.”
“Good. Now when do I get to kill these fools?”
“In two hours and forty seven minutes, you will.”
“I am not waiting.”
Metal Shadow’s boosters in his shoes blasted on, and he exploded through the roof. Eggman didn’t understand his newest creation. Metal Shadow was supposed to obey him! Eggman couldn’t understand this. Metal Shadow was programmed to obey Eggman, and not mutiny against his authority. But it was too late.

Minutes until Metal Shadow Strikes: 8 minutes
Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails were totally silent. The death of Sonic was a total surprise to all three of them.
“Well, we only have four Emeralds, the ones that we had hidden from Eggman. How are we supposed to beat the “Ultimate Machine” if we can’t even collect all seven emeralds!”
“Oh Tails calm down. Four emeralds can be as powerful as seven if we use them correctly…”
“No Knuckles, four emeralds won’t do JACK SQUAT for us!!!”
Shadow’s eyebrow started to twitch. He was getting irritated with this stupid argument about the Emeralds.
“…WE NEED SEVEN!”
“NO WE DON’T!!!”
“WILL YOU IDIOTS PLEASE SHUT UP!!!!!!!!” Shadow yelled.
Knuckles and Tails quieted. Shadow hadn’t spoken ever since they buried Sonic.
“Tails, listen to Knuckles. He’s the one that guards the Master Emerald.”
Tails nodded, and Knuckles opened his mouth to speak, but he was stopped by a sudden uprising of dirt.
“A sand storm now?” Shadow said.
“This isn’t a sand storm Shadow…” Knuckles said.
A black and red being landed in front of them. The being opened its eyes, revealing piercing red lights.
“Where’s your blue friend?” the being said starting laugh.
Tails realized it. The thing that just landed in front of him, killed Sonic. He killed his best friend, a person that stuck by his side through thick and thin.
“Metal Shadow…”
Tails eyes flared with anger. Metal Shadow hadn’t started a fight, he had started a war.
