Who would've won the tournament?

The last eppisode of DBZ ends without completing the tournament. So the question is who would've won? The standings have Pan vs. winner of Vegita vs. Trunks. Then the winner of that fight faces Hercule for the title.

Satan would've. They promised if any of them got to the finals that they'd let him win. Vegeta would've gotten to the finals though, unless he let Pan beat him.

For the sake of argument I'm just going to assume that everyone in the tournament was trying their hardest to win although they would go easy on certain opponents simply because beating them is fairly easy. That said it depends a lot on who fought who when.

For example an early Goku/Vegeta matchup might tire the winner out enough for one of the boy's to have an upset win.

Still overall I'd say the most likely winner if they were all actually trying would be Gohan only a SSj3 Goku can come close to matching his power and even then Goku would be losing energy steadily while Gohan wouldn't.

At the time of the tournament Gohan didn't have a lot of power compared to Goku. He may have been stronger then Vegeta, but not Goku. He didn't become that strong until after Old Kai released his energy l8r on in the series.

The tournament at the end, yes Gohan did have a lot of power. This took place post Buu Saga, so he would have had his Chou powers, he would be the strongest person there, but I do not believe he entered the tournament. This was after he had settled for being a scholar and a father.
An all out fight, Goku would win and be defeated by the great Satan! If you consider Goku and Uub leaving...Vegeta beats the crap out of everybody to show that he is the greatest Saiyan...blah blah blah...and is only willing to lose to Satan When Trunks and Bulma explain how the people will swarm him and want to be around him constantly. Or not!

Gohan being the strongest person at the World Tournament is debatable but, its not debateable who would have won the Tournament and thats Mr. Satan or Hercule whatever you wanna call him.

First off, Gohan didn't compete, so it doesn't matter how strong he is. The only thing that could affect is someone throwing a match some Pan would win because they were afraid Gohan would beat them up if they didn't. Second, we see Pan has incredable stamina, and Vegita would be tired after fighting Trunks. Besides that, it's hard to hit something that small.

Did they say that for the final tournament? I remember for the Buu saga tournament they said it, not sure about the final episode one though.

Buu would of won. SS3 Goku wouldn't have enough stanima to beat Buu. Goten and Trunks wouldn't be able to beat him and neither would Vegeta.

If SSJ was involved Goku IMO would be able to beat Buu. When Evil Buu came out of Fat Buu, Evil got the majority of the power.
Mr. Buu + Evil Buu= Fat Buu.

When Majin Vegita fought with Fat Buu, he did pretty well (at first). So if a half as powerful Buu fought a SSJ3 Goku (a hell of a lot stronger than SSJ2), Buu would be destroyed. Healing would not be a factor (as shown when Kid Buu fought Mr. Buu) and Goku could be done with him before the SSJ3 drain set in.

Without SSJ though, Buu would beat Goku.

Buu lost to Goten, as we can conclude because Pan beat Goten in the thirdround and Goten fought Buu in the first.

In the manga, Buu did defeat Goten, then defeated Pan. Buu vs Mr. Satan was the final round of the 28th World Tourament, Mr. Buu threw the fight for Mr. Satan. Pan vs Goten never happen in the manga. Truly, Pan wouldn't be able to beat Goten.

I'm not entirely sure about that myself she may have lost to Buu but we don't really know Goten and Pans relative strengths. Personally when I look at it I look at it like this how do you look at it?

Goten born to Goku and ChiChi
ChiChi = pretty skilled but not extraordinary human woman
Goten= Possible post HTC conception/possible prior HTC conception therfore Goku's either about equal to 1/2 the difference of 2nd and perfect form cells + 2nd form cell or moderately below android strength.
Goku's potential good
Goten trained by ChiChi then possibly Goku before mostly abandoning training to chase girls

Pan born to Gohan and Videl
Videl = pretty skilled but not extraordinary human woman
Pan definately post Buu saga conception therefore Gohans between Complete Buu's and Fusion Buu's power levels.
Gohans potential immense
Pan trained by either Gohan or Goku for a number of years and still highly motivated/interested in training

I'm not saying Pan is definately stronger than Goten and the SSj does make it almost certain he'd win but we don't know enough to be 100% positive she'd be unable to win even then and the SSj isn't an issue because they agreed not to use it. Therefore it would be base Goten vs base Pan and we know Goten has let his training slide massively we can tell that from the comments made. Furthermore even prior to the training we don't know much about his levels as it was the fusion of Goten and Trunks which fought Buu and fusions are much, much stronger. The surprise people exhibited was over them going SSj not their being impressively strong. Gohan from what we've seen is born with something like 3 times Goku's power and he's millions of times stronger than Goku was when conceiving Pan and still hundreds possibly thousands of times stronger than Goku was when conceiving Goten. If Pan inherited even a fraction of that power it could eclipse base Gotens strength.

Might be one reeason why Toei decided not to make her a super saiyan- she'd vaporize an enemy in one blow if she were to transform.
