Ever since I discovered that my Ruby game secret base trainer type is Bug Catcher I tought about making an all bug type just for the fun of it so my Bug Cacer is really like a Bug Catcher...

I already got a good Masquerain with Attract, Stun Spore, Water Pulse and Silver Wind who's a powerful annoyer...

I'm thinking of using Ninjask, Shedinja, Vibrava and keep my Swampert, as a last minute surprise (especially considering the people I mix record with all have Blaziken as starter)... and I aven't decided on my last one.

I was wondering if you guys had any tips, ideas of movesets and items and such... nothing too complexe like chain breeding and all... this is just for mixing records after all.

Oh and who would be the best opponent to get ATK EV for my Shedinja?

Thanks in advance.

Best opponent would be Paras in FR/LG is you can access it.Mt.Moon BF1.

sheddy is pretty fun to use. only problem is he dies in one hit.

shedinja@choice band
silver wind
return
shadow ball
<filler>

choice bander! I just made that idea up, but it seems good cause you just want to loose some strong moves, and they are going to bring out someone that can kill him so you might switch anyway. perfect for CB'ing.

attack EV's... on Ruby, Zangoose (i think) and Nuzleaf on rt 114 give 2 attack EV's each. And in the desert on Rt. 111, there are Baltoy and i beleive cacnea give Attack, though i'm not sure...

I don't have acess to FR/LG Pokémons...

Would Surskit be a good defense against Fire Pokémon? How efective is Water Sport?

Dark Malik

Water Sport reduces the power of fire attacks by half, so it's pretty useful.

Rain Dance does the same thing and increases the power of water type attacks.

Surskit is a dual type: Bug/water. So maybe it would be better against Fire than say a pure Bug type. IDK, I never used Surskit. Take a look at its SpDef base stat. Is it decent? And even if it is, you'll probably want to choose a +SpDeF personality and EV train accordingly.

Problem is, Bugs and Fire don't mix. But if you're really intent on having an all-bug team, than WTH, give it a try. I like themed teams, and its good to see someone trying this. Good luck to you!

Got water?

Heracross has insane attack and speed. it can learn Endure and Reversal, and also gets a STAB'ed Mega Horn. This should definately be one of the pokemon in your team.

I used a Surskit, but now it's my Annoyer Masquerain.

What's a good +SpDef personality? Is there a -ATK +SpDef nature?

I just want to make this team for my secret ase trainer really, it's for the fun of it since I already passed the league and the Battle Tower doesn'T interest me much.

Calm nature is a -Att, +Sp Def nature

11-14-2004, 02:24 PM
DM beat me to it, lol. There is a list of all of the natures on the R/S Help Thread (in post 3) if you want to take a look.

poster 'other1' makes a good choice. Heracross is the best (imo) of the bugs and should be given serious consideration for adding to the team. A properly trained UberCross can knock out a whole team and ruin someone's day. Since this is for ingame only though, just have some fun and pick ones you lilke.

What kind of EV training do you do with Heracross? I suppose you max ATK, DEF and give a little speed to get the Endure out quickly.

Kuiper

Heracross can do some nasty stuff at 1 HP with STAB reversal, STAB+swarm Megahorn, and SD to boost his attack before he reaches 1 HP so he can take on fliers, just have Salac and Endure/Substitute to get to 1 HP.

Forretress is all around useful utility, Rabid Spin, spikes, Zap Cannon for Aeroy, and EQ for taking out Magneton or Explosion for some fun, with special defense EVs he can survive Maggy's PK fiar long enough to EQ it to death.

Scyther is cool, fast and everything, EQ immunity plus speed makes it arguably better than Scizor, it can BP SD and Agility, although with SD and reversal, plus swarm it can do some crazy stuff on its own.

Ninjask is good, though most people with phaze it, so don't start with it unless you're BPing to Octillery or something, sub, and if they let it live, SD, then BP the sub, SD, and speed boosts and clean up, arguably the best BPer in the game.

Sheddy is utterly useless when they expect it, but when you pull it at the right time it can have devestating effect. If they've got a lot of stat ups and no move to kill it (CM Cune) then they've gotta switch and lose the stat-ups. Use Lum for unexpected burn, poison, or confusion.

Shuppets are great for attack EV training.

Shuckle is an awesome annoyer. He's one of the best in the games. Fits into your bug-themed team, too. He's Bug/Rock type.

I got an Armaldo in my Sapphire game... I could trade him over... but for now I'll try basing my team off of this(the natures aren't that important since this isn't made to be highly competitive):

Masquerain@Shell Bell
-Attract
-Stun Sport
-Water Pulse
-Silver Wind

Heracross@???
-Mega Horn
-Endure
-Reversal
-Brick Break

Ninjask@????
-Sword Dance
-Baton Pass (It CAN learn it right?)
-Double Team
- Fury Cutter/Fury Attack

Surskit@Mystic Water
-Water Sport/Rain Dance
-Water Gun (already used my Pulse TM -- )
-????
-????

Vibrava@????
-Crunch
-????
-????
-????

Swampert@Whatever I want :p
-Earthquake
-Muddy Water
-Surf
-Ice Beam

Now where do I go from there... and what sould I aim for?

Can Ninjask learn Subsitute on it's own?

I only got one set of leftovers, most of the time tough Masquerain is well protected with it's combination of Intimidate, Attract, Stun Spore, Confusing Water Pulse and very high Sp.Def (his best stat) so I just go with Shell Bell.

Where do you get a Salac Berry?

I want to use Vibrav for the fun of it really.

Aim for EVOLVING or REMOVING Surskit, its pretty bad. Surskit has low base stats.

If I evolve Surskit he'll be another Masquerain, and that's Flying/Bug... I need him as a Water/Bug because of Fire Pokémons (even if I kept swampert).

I could use Shedinja if I hope for Swampert to take care of any fire mon.

If you do use Shedinja, I'd sugget:

Shedinja @ Lum Berry
Wonder Guard
EVs: 255 Attack, 255 Speed
Lonely/Adamant/Naughty Nature
-Shadow Ball
-HP Fight
-Swords Dance
-Toxic/Confuse Ray

EVs look sketchy, but they're basically the only spread it should use. Oh, don't use special Sheddy, because it's horrible with 30 base SpAtk, and it can barely learn four special attacks anyway.

I think Heracross is better with subreversaling instead of endrevving, and Armaldo is a good Bug type you should consider.

Does Vibrava learns any good ground move? It's been ages since I trained a Vibrava...

I don't deal with mono-teams, but perhaps you could do bug themed with a little bit of other stuff?

Shedinja @ Choice Band
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SAtk
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- Silver Wind
- *some good special move*
- Filler move

Forretress @ Leftovers/Chesto Berry
Trait: Iunno the trait
EVs: 252 HP / good defense and some attack
I guess go Impish or Adamant for the Nature
- Spikes
- Explosion
- Earthquake
- Rest

Ninjask @ Liechi Berry/Leftovers
Trait: Speed Boost
252 Atk / 252 Spd (or go 252 HP / 252 Spd or something), rest in HP(or Atk)
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass
- Silver Wind/Aerial Ace/Protect(IF using Protect, go 252 HP / 252 Spd / 4 Def)

Swampert @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / rest in defense and attack
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rest

Heracross @ Choice Band
Trait: Guts
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Megahorn
- Brick Break
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Salamence @ Lum Berry/Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Claw
- Crunch

It's not great, but I threw it together in a few minutes.

Here are a few pokemon that will help you alot.

Ninjask
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpAtk)
Ability: Speed Boost
Item: Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Spd
Moves:
Subsitute
Baton Pass
Swords Dance
Silver Wind

Simply Sub as much as you can to get Speed Boosts andSwords Dances in then Baton pass.

Scizor
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpAtk)
Ability: Swarm
Item: Salac Berry
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 Spd
Moves:
Swords Dance
Endure
Subsitute
Reversal

Sub until 1 HP or use Endure when you're gonna faint from the opposing attack. Salac will activate when you endure or get brought down to 1 HP. Use Swords Dance when you can.

Shuckle
Nature: Careful (+SpDef, - SpAtk)
Ability: Sturdy
Item: Leftovers
EVs: 80 HP, 252 Def, 176 SpDef
Moves:
Toxic
Wrap
Rest
Protect

Use Toxic then Wrap, protecting and resting when you need to. this EV spread will give him enough HP to survive an extra Seismic Toss or Night Shade, which will help A LOT. You may want to give him more SpDef instead of Def EVs since his only weakness is water, but his nature already increases SpDef so you may not need it.

Armaldo
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpAtk)
Ability: Battle Armor
Item: Salac Berry
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 SpAtk, 2 HP
Moves:
Swords Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Hidden Power [BUG]

Here's a good physical sweeper. Speed is a problem, so you may want to use Ninjask to BP some speed or a sub to get an extra Swords Dance in.
